Executive Resume Tips: Give Yourself A Resume Reality Check
A resume is no place to cut corners in your job search?but the truth is many job seekers do. Sure it's a modest investment to have a resume professionally designed, but honestly I don't think that is the main reason why job seekers try to sidestep this important step.
I believe the real reason is simply because many job seekers feel their resume is ?good enough?. This is an interesting phenomenon. Have you heard the saying "you don't know what you don't know until you know it?" I think this applies to understanding the magnitude of what a professional resume can actually do for your job search results. It does indeed have the ability to turn your whole job search around, pay for itself through shortening the job search process, securing you higher and more quality interviews and offers or a combination thereof.
Why? Because it is a critical part of a potential employers first impression of you. And as we all know, first impression are everything.
But so many job seekers wait a month, two months or even THREE months before they conclude there is something "wrong" with their job search ( i.e.: they aren?t getting any quality interviews) and reach out for help. And by then their confidence has taken a major hit?not to mention their pocketbook if they are between jobs.
But all of this could have been avoided with a little planning and expert advice. Ask yourself this: IS your resume winning you the interviews you want? If the answer is no, then you need to look at your resume as a possible source of the problem.
To do this, you can reach out to me OR check out Career Directors International and look at their list of certified resume writers - then reach out to one (or more) of them and ask them to give you a resume critique. You can also look at their resume samples (you can see some samples here too) to see how yours compares.
Why not go to your friend in HR or a recruiter? Because although they may have some experience and some preferences about what they would like to see, they will generally not be professionally trained and certified in resume writing nor able to offer anything other than a limited perspective on how well you are truly marketing yourself.
A job search can be well planned out, targeted and smooth running. It can just as easily be long, drawn out and ineffective. Over the years I have discovered that you need three things to set up a successful job search. These are: a crystal clear focus, great marketing collateral and using the right job search strategies for your particular goals.
Checking your marketing collateral using the simple steps I have outlined above will help you to quickly and easily give yourself an accurate "resume reality check."

Jobbait?s Job Market Report ? Employment Growth Improving
Employment growth throughout the US improved for the 5th month in a row. Although we're still losing jobs, if the improvements continue as they have for the last 5 months, we would be adding jobs by this summer.
In a separate report issued today by the Conference Board, they note that the Employment Trends Index (ETI) also rose for the 5th month in a row. They are "more optimistic that job growth will resume in the first quarter of 2010" - even earlier than our analysis.
Fastest growing US industries include Healthcare and Education.
